settled

"When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction,
a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done
for the strengthening of the church." I Cor. 14:26

Celebration
was awesome tonight and I felt like we experienced this verse right out
of I Corinthians. Our worship leader opened up tonight saying that we
were going to direct our focus of worship on God's character revealed
in the various aspects through scripture. She had given the worship
team… Continue

theological worldview

This is weird... I took this theological worldview quiz and came out like this (see below). Apparently, based on the bar graph, I'm very confused... :o) (How much can you really expect from a site called
'QuizFarm'?) I would probably agree with the overall "who you are"
part, but I think the bar-graph shows a lot of - well - nothing! (I
even did the quiz twice to make sure I answered all the questions based
on what I thought and wasn't tainted by guessing which ones would come
out as what. Wh

brainwashed or deceived?

I've decided I need to stay away from The Forum... I guess I've never experienced 'healthy debate' where people don't end up thinking the 'other side' are ignorant idiots. So I guess it sort of scares me. And for the record, as many times as not, those people aren't just Christians. In fact, this is something I was pondering today... why do people that take any kind of clear stand - be it religious or political, liberal or conservative - get labeled as fanatics? And those pointing the finger are… Continue

Give to Caesar...

I read a very interesting article yesterday that has gotten me thinking, and just keeps bouncing around in my mind
ever since. The article talked about 2 things that struck me. The first
was on a personal level; it talked about the verse in Mark 12:17 that
talks about paying taxes. It says "give to Caesar what is Caesar's and
give to God what is God's". That got me thinking about this: if we truly
believe that everyt… Continue

Holiness and Risk

A few hours after touching down back in Scotland from The International Mentoring Network’s Immersion experience in Orlando, I found myself in a conversation about a Methodist Church initiative called Holiness and Risk.

Is it okay if I tell you a little about this? It’s a really intriguing kind of thing that can emerge [...]

Tomorrow and How to Get There – The Futuristic

Tomorrow.  Face it with either fear or anticipation, it doesn’t matter which, it is coming regardless of our grasp of it.  Fortunes have been made marketing knowledge about tomorrow whether that tomorrow is 24 hours away or 100 years distant.

Fortune tellers make the promise that that can allay our fears with their prognostication [...]

Communities of Knowing

In his book, The Message in the Bottle, Walker Percy tells the fictional story of a train that hurried through the countryside. The commuters on board saw the passing scenery as little more than a two-dimensional background rolling past their windows.

One day, though, the train breaks down and the commuters have to disembark by a [...]
