"St. Louis Style" Pizza - don't be fooled

Having grown up in St. Louis, and spending the last 10+ years in LA, I've heard people (a very few) refer to "St. Louis Style Pizza." Thinner crust than NY Style, unfoldable due to its crispiness, it's usually cut into small squares. So far there's nothing here that seems worthy of a new style. Then you add the Provel cheese...a stick-to-your-teeth processed version of swiss, provelone and cheddar, made specifically for the St. Louis market. How kind of you

In Paul McCartney's song "How Kind of You" (in the lineup to the left) he's tells a friend how much he appreciates the kindness received at some crucial moment. I found myself waiting for the song to become sarcastic, then remembered that Paul comes from an era that didn't necessarily do that. Ah, postmodernism.

Elisabeth and I have usually come to love everywhere we've lived, and LA's no different. Though most of our fam is in MO, 99% of our friends, and the place we've come to know as home is here in LA. Mostly though, LA's one of those unique places perched on the edge of several parts of the world. One chance conversation at the supermarket can put you in touch with the other side of t… Continue

Battle of the Planets

Robotech? Voltron? Cowboy Bebop? Rookies. The mother of all anime shows, at least here in the US, was an adaptation of the Japanese hit "Gatchaman" known in America as "Battle of the Planets." Listen to the theme song in my playlist. Still gives me shivers. Sorry to sound like the guy from "The Sandlot," but at the time, BOTP was the stuff.

"G-Force. Five incredible young people with super powers.......(music).......and, watching over them from Center Neptune: 7-Zark-7, watching, warnin… Continue
