The Future Now

Is ‘balance’ biblical?

Todays post is actually inspired by Colleen Foshee. She suggested that I write something on balance. Specifically, Colleen asked me whether balance is a biblical principle of not. I’m just going to shoot from the hip with this one. Let me start with a question. How many of the leading characters in the Bible would you describe [...]

An update about The Future Now

I thought I’d just bring everyone up to speed with my plans for this blog. I’ve been trying to decide what is going to be the best, most sustainable way to keep developing this site. As such, my plan is to go with a writing rhythm of two posts per week. This gives me a realistic goal [...]

Losing God’s words in our words

At the same time that we are flippantly producing more words about God, we are paradoxically less interested in the words he has spoken about himself. This quote is from ‘The Divine Commodity’ by Skye Jethani. I found it extremely challenging and thought provoking. It struck me how, when it comes to God, I find it so [...]

I’ve been slack, I apologise

I know, I know, it’s been forever since I posted anything here. Let me start by giving my excuse and then I’ll finish by promising to do better! Well, the excuse. Some of you may already understand why actually as a few of you will be aware that I launched a new website last week. It took [...]

The genius of a composer is found in the notes of his music; but analysing the notes will not reveal his genius

I came across this great quote today in Steve Chalke’s new book, ‘Apprentice’. He quotes a Jesuit philosopher called Anthony de Mello. The genius of a composer is found in the notes of his music; but analysing the notes will not reveal his genius. The poet’s greatness is contained in his words; yet the study of [...]

Sam, that's pretty amazing that you've been to the Holy Ghost Congress in Lagos! I've taken teams of people over the years, whose lives have been significantly impacted by the powerful display of the supernatural and the people's commitment to prayer. I do think that model works effectively for the African continent but not so much in the West. I sure look forward to cnnecting with you guys at some point.

We met briefly at Humana last year. Every summer, the college/young adult ministry I work with takes a trip to Amsterdam to serve with ministries at work in the Red Light District. So after meeting, we kept in contact and then were able to meet up and spend some time together while we were in Ams.

i feel like we are at the pre-initial prototype theoretical mock-up stage (how's that for expressing tentativeness?). we've only had one event - a culture pub that we called "Ember" back last month - but it was fabulous. our hope is coordinate another one for mid-february after i return from the immersion.

looking forward to meeting ryan then!
