You know who you are

The Goal

I started singing when I was about 5 or six, with my sister Eleanor at my parents house in Temple City, California. Mostly Duran Duran covers at the time (Sorry to out you El!). From the start it was a passion, and I sang almost every time I was by myself. I guess I never stopped, and so many years later, here I am, a singer and songwriter who has lived and learned, and who is still as passionate about music as I was all those years ago.

But even more than music, there is a passion I have which drives my thoughts and motivations above all others. Plainly put, I am driven by the deep desire to become a true and honesty man of courage, integrity, and selflessness. I have always sought this kind of personal growth and transformation, even when I was very young. It's as if it were programmed within me by Bill Gates sometime in the mid 70's.

In addition, I am tired of living in a world that is ruled by opposite impulses. Though my convictions tell me that the world is not going to change any time soon, I intend to put a dent in it's stubborn nature, even if it kills me. I dream of a world that values character, and selflessness. Where people like Jesus, are the James Deans, and not simply the punch lines on "South Park." I dream of a world where men and women do not point fingers, but link arms. A world where I take responsibility, not only for my own short comings and sins, but for yours as well. A world where I bleed for your brokenness, and you bleed for mine.

Anyone who has ever sought to truly grow in such a way, knows that it is impossible to do it on your own. That it only happens when the Truth calls you by name, and when you choose to make Him your everything.

My desire is to sing. I want to soften men's hearts with music. To open them up and point them toward the questions that are written on their souls. I want to gain the greatest amount of influence in this world, in order to bring about the greatest good.

For me the battle ground is the music industry. What I know how to do is sing.

Who are you? What is your passion?

I'm looking for a team.

Cheers,

J

I'm with you John, and I think I know others that would join your team. I have a passion of trying to connect with young men and women thru the music arts. My challenge is that even though I'm extremely good looking ;) I will be turning 50 this summer. I have found that my music can breaks thru age barriers. I try to connect thru different musical channels. This year (actually next) I will be competing in regional Laptop Battles in Seattle. (There are some skills up here but I know I can smoke these guys, huh Andy) That is a whole genre that spans borders both in the states and in Canada. I will try to make an impression on the older crowd by playing solo sets in downtempo, chill, lounge settings. This is my prayer and plan for the coming season. I plan to infiltrate the generations by association. Oh yeah, I have to keep my day job(cover) going too.

Man that's awesome. I tell ya, this is the only thing I know how do to, and If I can see it affect people in a positive way, and get them inspired enough to change themselves and the world around them for the better, then I have done my job.
Would love to connect.

Holiness and Risk

A few hours after touching down back in Scotland from The International Mentoring Network’s Immersion experience in Orlando, I found myself in a conversation about a Methodist Church initiative called Holiness and Risk.

Is it okay if I tell you a little about this? It’s a really intriguing kind of thing that can emerge [...]

Tomorrow and How to Get There – The Futuristic

Tomorrow.  Face it with either fear or anticipation, it doesn’t matter which, it is coming regardless of our grasp of it.  Fortunes have been made marketing knowledge about tomorrow whether that tomorrow is 24 hours away or 100 years distant.

Fortune tellers make the promise that that can allay our fears with their prognostication [...]

Communities of Knowing

In his book, The Message in the Bottle, Walker Percy tells the fictional story of a train that hurried through the countryside. The commuters on board saw the passing scenery as little more than a two-dimensional background rolling past their windows.

One day, though, the train breaks down and the commuters have to disembark by a [...]
